NDEs on TV – I Survived… Beyond and Back

22 Jul

I thought the TV show that aired last night was very interesting. It showed two very interesting people describe their individual NDEs.

Sandy had a NDE during the time that she drowned while white water rafting. She described seeing images of her sons when they were older than they currently were then having an out of body experience where she was looking at her body from above.

Matthew had his NDE after being shot in the head. He described the more unusual experience of going to hell and was convinced of the presence of evil. His NDE then changed when the darkness was penetrated and a large hand appeared to help him and then he heard a voice saying ‘It’s not your time’.

What was very also helpful was the testimonies of people who witnessed the events and who verified how close to death they had both been. Despite Matthew having an extensive gun shot wound to the head and having undergone a cardiac arrest where his heart had stopped for over four minutes and despite Sandy being under the water for almost five minutes, I found it remarkable that neither one suffered any hypoxic brain damage. This is yet another aspect of NDEs that is difficult to explain.

Following his NDE Matthew has been left with absolutely no fear of death but also wants to tell everyone that there is a hell. He reiterated that based on the choices he now makes in his life he is not going back to hell.

It was apparent that both were left with feelings of great love for others. Matthew emphasised how strong his love for his wife is. Sandy also talked about her NDE giving her a lesson of self worth and how much she loves her sons. It ended with Sandy saying how important it is to cherish those you love and to let them know that you love them.

What an interesting TV show and what great people both Sandy and Matthew were to share such emotional experiences with so many people. I look forward to next weeks show.

    Hi again, Penny,
Yes I watched the programme, it was interesting, although I found the case of Matthew a little disconcerting to say the least. He didn’t seem to have a history of axe murder, so I wonder why he would end up in hell ?
Is there an outer darkness for ‘dark’ (behaviour wise) souls for all eternity ? Who knows, I do hope not but I can’t have it both ways …it’s clearly not all sweetness and light after death 😉

That was one of the really good things about the TV programme – it highlighted that some people have frightening NDEs. The frightening NDEs are much less commonly reported but certainly do happen. I came across two of the frightening kind in the prospective hospital research that I did. One was interpreted as unpleasant whereas the other was terrifying for the lady who reported it.

We don’t know why some report pleasant NDEs and other report frightening ones. It would seem logical to expect that ‘bad’ people would have the frightening type and ‘good’ people the pleasant type but this is not the case. Frightening NDEs can be experienced by anyone.

There is a quite a lot to say about the frightening kind so I’ll post a longer piece next week.

Yes, I remember reading about the two cases in your book. You are certain, I suppose, that these were not hallucinations so we must accept them.

Yes, the two frightening NDEs were very interesting. The first was the usual type of NDE but interpreted in a frightening way. The second was a ‘hellish’ experience where the lady believed she was looking into the ‘flames of hell’ – she was absolutely petrified and began crying hysterically so I had to terminate the interview because she was getting so distressed.

I also documented cases of hallucinations and there were differences between the NDEs and the hallucinations. I’ll write more on this later in the week.
