This week it was reported that Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina spoke to Oprah Winfrey about Whitney’s death because she wanted to tell the world that the ‘spirit’ of Whitney is still at her side.
Bobbi Kristina was quoted as saying ‘I can still laugh with her and talk to her. I can hear her voice telling me keep moving baby I got you. She’s always with me; I can always feel her with me. Her spirit is strong I feel her pass through me all the time.’
Interestingly Bobbi Kristina was also quoted as saying ‘Throughout the house lights turn on and off, and I’m like Mum what are you doing?’
Bobbi Kristina appears to be experiencing after death communication. This has been commonly reported by many people. However, many people are very reluctant to tell others about these communications in case they won’t be believed. I have written about after death communications in my forthcoming book (it’s in the process of being published) and have got some very interesting examples including one from children’s author Shelley E Parker who received many communications from her fiancé after he was tragically killed in a helicopter crash.
I have spoken to many people who have reported similar things to Bobbi Kristina and there are a few very interesting books which describe various other kinds of after death communication. One very interesting read is called Hello from Heaven by Bill and Judy Guggenheim.
One thing that particularly interests me is electrical disturbances around death – many people who have a NDE report disturbances in their electrical field after their NDE. There are also many documented reports of electrical disturbances after people have died. Many people have reported lights flickering, radios unexpectedly turning themselves on, lights being left on even after they have been turned off. It was especially interesting to me to read that Bobbi Kristina had mentioned the house lights turning on and off.
How inspiring that Bobbi Kristina has shared this so publicly with the world. I’m sure it will give comfort to many others who are themselves experiencing the loss of a loved one and it will also reassure others who have experienced some kind of after death communication.
This is fascinating; I hadn’t read it in another news outlet, so thanks for passing the word along. As someone who has worked in the medical field, what are your views on “mediums,” and those who claim they have contacted the dead?
Hi Monica, in answer to your question I think it’s important to keep an open mind. I have attended a few meetings with mediums in the past where the medium passed on messages for some members of the audience. On the whole I have found these mettings to have had a positive effect on the members of the audience who received a message – on one occasion there was a message for someone who wasn’t expecting a message but merely went to keep her friend company. The messages obviously brought great comfort to those who received them and it in some way gave them closure over the death of the loved one they were getting a message from.
Some of these messages appeared to contain information that would not normally be of relevance to anyone other than the person receiving the message. In fact a friend of mine received a message that was so personal that he was convinced the medium was accurate as there was no way anyone else could know about this.
On the other hand I have seen mediums who do not appear to be so accurate and were obviously picking up on the body language and non-verbal communication of the person receiving the message.
In the research that I did, one of the patients met a dead relative during his NDE and was sent back to life and told to give a message to one of his living relatives. When he recovered he relayed this message to his living relative and she was shocked that that he should know this information as it was something she had gone to great lengths to keep a secret. So this man gained information in ways other than through the senses during a time when he was deeply unconscious.
I think our understanding of consciousness is gradually changing and the more research that is undertaken into NDEs will help expand our understanding of this very complex phenomenon. It is a very exciting time to be researching in the field of consciousness studies.
Thanks so much for sharing, Dr. Sartori. It’s all very fascinating to think about. I’m reading the book “The Afterlife Experiments right now”…it’s been interesting so far, but I’m not 100% sure what to make of it!
Thanks for your comment. Professor Gary Schwartz’s book ‘The Afterlife Experiments’ is a very interesting read. The more research that is being undertaken in the important field of consciousness studies is confirming that there is much more to learn and understand about consciousness. To say that consciousness is the mere by-product of neurological functioning appears to be a very limited explanation.
Hi penny, love reading your blog and your book.
I was just curious, what are you currently working on?
Hi, I am currently working on writing a module for a Humanities Part-Time Degree course that will I be teaching at Swansea University. The course that I am writing is called Science, Spirituality and Health and will consider many interesting topics such as ‘What is mind?’, ‘Can Mind be Extended in Space?’, ‘NDEs and Empathic Death Experiences’, ‘Spiritually Transformative Experiences’ etc. There is a preparation course which commences on 23rd April 2012 then the Degree module commences in September 2012.
I’ve also just written another book and am in the process of negotiating with publishers.
Has anyone heard of this story about an after death communication: http://www.paranormalreview.com/articles/20120715
Hi Tony, I hadn’t heard of that case until I got your blog message. Thanks for alerting me to it, I’ve briefly read the story on the link and it seems very interesting. There appear to be more and more of these cases reported, maybe its because people are not so afraid to share their experiences publicly any more.
After my mom past away back in Sept 26 2012. My light in in my bed room has been flickering. After i say hi mom it stops.
Hi Sheryl, thank you so much for sharing that with the blog. It sounds very similar to experiences reported by by others. There is a very helpful book called ‘Hello From Heaven’ by Bill and Judy Guggenheim which report many similar cases of after death communications.
